For the past year I have been questioning myself on whether I made the right decision to not send Nathan to kindergarten this past year. Over the summer I debated on calling the school and telling them that I changed my mind and I do want to send Nathan. I was constantly second-guessing myself.
This past Friday Nathan had kindergarten screening. The results lifted the weights off my shoulders that I have been carrying around. He improved over 30%. Last year he had an overall percentage of 55% and this time around he scored a 88%. Between 45 and 85 is average, so this year he was above average! They had several categories and a lot of sub-categories. One of the sub-categories he didn't do well at was sentence memory. They would say a sentence like, "I have a red wagon." Then he would have to repeat it. As you went along, the sentences got harder. He also didn't do to well in the visual discrimination but the teacher said that those were almost like optical illusions. When I was sitting there watching him from about 6 foot away, I would have to agree as I couldn't pick out which one was different.
I feel more confident that Nathan will do better in school since we held him last year. He will have just turned 19 when he graduates, but I am hoping that he doesn't struggle as much by waiting that year to send him.
