Bruce's birthday

Darren did not feel well yesterday, so Mom watched the boys. According to Stacey, she watched them all day as Mom wasn't home. It was a Wednesday and Mom teaches religion on Wednesday mornings so Mom work Stacey up at 8:00 to watch the boys since she only has school on Tuesday & Thursday's and is currently unemployed. Then apparently Mom had a lunch date with my aunt Renee. I don't know if it was Nathan's idea or Grandma's but they made cupcakes yesterday for Bruce's birthday. When I got to Mom's house to pick up the boys, there were getting ready to put icing on the cupcakes. Nathan was in charge of putting sprinkles on, so they were a little heavy-handed. Nathan was only allowed to sprinkle one tray as Grandpa (Dad) does not like sprinkles. Nathan took four cupcakes home to celebrate Bruce's birthday, and they were pretty good!

Sick boys

Nathan has an issue with going to be and falling asleep so we usually try to get him to fall asleep on the couch or on the floor next to us. After he is sleeping, we (sometimes) carry him to bed. We cannot make him go to bed as he shares a room with Darren and at least this way one of the boys is sleeping.

Last night we both must have fell asleep before we could put Nathan to bed. Around 1:00 am Bruce yells, "Lisa wake up." It turns out that Nathan was throwing up. Since he had already thrown up mostly all over his blanket, we just arranged the blanket so that he could keep throwing up on it. We get him cleaned up and remove the blanket. As we were all settling back to sleep, we hear a very pathetic sounding, "Mommy" from Darren's room. We choose to ignore it figuring all the commotion woke him up and he would fall right back to sleep.

After ten or fifteen minutes of him being pathetic and crying, we decided to get up. Bruce volunteered to get up with Darren, so I crawled back under the covers. I then hear Bruce yelling for me to come here. It turns out that Darren threw up also, and it was all over Darren and the crib. Bruce changed his pajama's and I cleaned up the crib. Darren fell right back to sleep with no problem.

Bruce and I are then laying in bed, and Bruce just keeps coughing. He has had this cough for ten days or so, and it is driving me crazy!

This morning I got myself ready for work, and asked Nathan how he felt. (He was up about 6:15) He said his belly still hurt a little, so I asked him if he wanted to go to daycare. He said that he did and I seriously debated sending him to daycare as Marylou is fairly relaxed about certain things. Instead I called my Mom and asked if she could watch the boys for a while. She said that she could, so when I was driving the boys to Mom's I was telling Nathan that since he was to sick to go to daycare, he is to sick to go outside. He then excitedly told me that he was feeling better. What a little sh**head!

Creation of a monster

What kind of monster have I created? One morning when I was feeling kind of rough, I turned on the Boomerang network which plays cartoons all day. everyday so Nathan would leave me alone for five minutes. He is now at the age where he he wants to watch his "funny shows" all the time. He begs to watch them while I am making dinner, he begs to watch them during dinner, he begs to watch them in the evening when Bruce and I are trying to relax and catch up on our shows. This morning he awoke when Bruce left for work about 6:10 and asked to watch his funny shows. I told him to go back to sleep. About a half hour later he crawls into our bed and asks again to watch his funny shows. I told him no because Mom is trying to watch the news. As soon as I walk out of my bedroom to start gathering the boys stuff for daycare, he switches the channel on me!!

Darren is at the age, and it is part of his personality, not to sit still for nothing unless he is eating. He has no desire to attempt to put wood puzzles together like Nathan did at his age, he just wants to be where the action is. He will not play in his room if we are in the living room, if Bruce is in the shower he has to be at least in our bedroom. He was like that as a baby, so I should have expected it. We would lay him on a blanket in the living room and we would all go into the kitchen to make dinner or whatever and he would scream because he was left alone. You can tell he is a second child.

Boys will be boys

I was later than normal dropping the boys off on Monday, and DiDi (Diane) was already at daycare. She normally never gets there until 7:30, so that tells you how late I was running. For some reason she is the favorite teacher of all the kids at daycare. Darren says DiDi more than he says Mom. Anyway, DiDi asked me on Monday if my boys like to wrestle and does Dad wrestle with them. I said that they love to wrestle and yes, Bruce does wrestle with them. He doesn't so much wrestle as he lays there and lets the boys jump on him. DiDi said that you can tell. Not sure what that statement meant, but I have an idea.

When Nathan got out of the shower the other night, Darren walked right up to Nathan, made two fist and punched Nathan in the eyes. He even said "BOOM". Skeeter has no concept of a getting beat up by a bigger kid. Nathan will be sitting on the floor playing nicely, and Darren will just walk up and hit, punch or jump on him. That could be because Nathan does the same thing to him. I may have to enroll the boys in a karate class or something to burn this excess energy.

Then yesterday when Bruce picked the boys up from daycare, he was told by Mary Lou that Nathan was misbehaving. Him and three other boys were wrestling and throwing punches. Nathan swears up and down that he was not throwing punches, and he may be telling the truth. Awhile back he was threatening to punch me in the gut because he was mad at me. I told him that you don't throw punches, and if he did punch me I was going to punch him back. Well, he went ahead and punched me. I punched him back hard enough for him to lose his breath. I then lectured him and told him that there is always someone bigger than him and they can probably punch harder. He has never threatened to punch anyone again to the best of my knowledge. He may be telling the truth, but he was still involved in the scene. His friends are all five or getting ready to turn five so he is the youngest of the group. Either he is a follower, or good at getting everyone else in trouble.
