Sneaky Pete

As I have mentioned before, both of my boys like to spend time outside. Nathan is old enough that I will let him go outside by himself as long as he stays in the backyard. He likes to go out front though and ride his bike and that still makes me nervous considering how busy our road is. I still do not like to let Darren out unless an adult is with him. Last night the boys wanted to go outside and play. I told Darren that he could go out but he had to stay in the backyard and listen to Nathan. The neighbor girls came over and they said that they would help watch him. I don't like to make Nathan responsible for his brother, but I had several things to do in the kitchen so that I could help watch him. As I was unloading the dishwasher, I hear, "Get back here Darren." I rush out the door and spot Darren in the garage. He just wants to ride all the outdoor toys, but I absolutely do not trust him near the road. I backed my van out and closed the garage door and let him ride his toys around the garage. When I was washing the dishes, I see him running across our yard to get to the neighbor's where Nathan was. I go running after him and Scott (the girls Dad) says it is all right if he wants to come over to play. Because they live off the road so far, I feel a lot more comfortable with Nathan and Darren over there riding outdoor toys.

It is at times like this that I wish we still had our fence, but I doubt that would be able to contain Darren. We just need to get out of town and into the country. I would even feel better if we were living in town in a different neighborhood. Not that there is anything wrong with the neighbors, but it is the traffic that bugs me. I know that when, and if, we ever get out to the country, the boys are going to miss having other kids to play with. There are pros and cons to town living versus country living, but I think the pros for living in the country far outweigh the cons!
