I was working with Darren the other night in a kindergarten workbook and the exercise was to fill in the missing letter of the alphabet train. Darren knew what letters were missing although he struggled a little bit trying to recall what the letters looked like so that he could write it in the blank spot.
We get to the letter ‘J.’ He writes the letter down, only he puts the ‘hook’ to the right instead of the left. I tell him that is wrong and that the ‘hook’ needs to go the other way. He tells me that he doesn’t like the letter J that way, so he is going to write it the way he wants to.
