While at the fair last night, Justin kept insisting on walking around and looking at the animals. As I may have posted before, last year and at the beginning of this summer, he was terrified to be around animals. He will approach animals now, but it has to be on his terms. If an animal gets startled and moves abruptly, he will try to crawl up your leg. Or if you are holding him, he will try to crawl in your skin.
At one point when Justin insisted on walking around and looking at the cows for the 58th time of the evening, my brother-in-law Dan decided to come with us. Along for the walk were his kids Gavin and Jenna, and my sons Darren & Nathan. Of course Jenna and Darren were too cool to hold any of the adults’ hands, and Nathan pretty much has free reign of the barn area. That meant that I was holding Justin’s hand and Dan was holding Gavin’s along with a drink. Once we got in the barn though, my hand was not protection enough. He insisted, rather urgently, that Dan hold his hand. Apparently Dan is a better protector than I am? That kind of hurts my feelings….
