Yesterday was kindergarten parent lunch. Bruce and I meet Darren at school at 11:00 am for lunch. Our meal consisted of spaghetti, garlic toast, green beans and applesauce. The food was pretty decent, but Darren got a 'Grab-n-Go' lunch instead of the hot meal.
I don't know if Darren is always that much of a talker at school, or if it was because we were sitting with our neighbors and he knows them very well, but he never shut up! I am used to that at home, so maybe he talks like that all the time?? He had to point out things that were quite obvious, but you could tell that he was proud to have us there.
Since Michelle Obama implemented the fight against obesity, she declared that the calorie intake of school lunches has to be restricted. I understand what she is trying to accomplish, but it is killing the local school's cafeteria program and leaving kids hungry. About two months ago the school started offering "Grab-n-Go' lunches. They consist of milk, a cheese stick, a cup of applesauce, baby carrots, teddy grahams and either a ham sandwich or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. When I look at some of the menu offerings, I would be choosing the 'Grab-n-Go' lunches too!
