Changing the way they do snacks...

This year, for the first time, they decided to change how the kindergarten and first grade kids have their morning snack.  Instead of me packing a snack for Darren on the days he has school, I am to supply a store-bought, list approved snack for the entire class to share.  No homemade treats are allowed.  This is all done for the kids that may have a peanut allergy.

I see pros and cons to this arrangement, but I guess it is a fact that if I send in a peanut butter treat with Darren, it could seriously injury or kill the kid next to him.

UPDATE:  The first week of school students with the last name A-K were to bring enough snacks in for the entire class and the snacks would be stored until they were needed.  Once those are gone, then the students with the last name L-Z were to bring snacks in.  So I am not sure how often I will have to bring snacks in.  For instance, I brought in (2) 12 packs of snack size Cheez Its.  With 17 kids in the class, that means they will have a surplus of seven Cheez Its.  If every parent sends in a surplus, there is a chance that I may only have to buy snacks once more this year.

We don't have peanut butter Uncrustables in the cafeteria anymore, either. So, how often do you have to send snacks in? I am not sure if I'd love that arrangement or not. I guess it would be easier than sending a snack everyday. I can see that it is necessary, though. I'd hate to harm another child over sending in the wrong thing for my kid!

They do snacks the same way at Julia's school.
