School problems
Nathan would probably be embarrassed to know that I am telling everyone this, but I thought that I was going to have to hire a tutor for him. His first spelling test of the year he got a 58%.....a "F". The second spelling test of the year he scored an "A-". Much better. Not sure if he wasn't as prepared for the first test. Or if he was still in summer mode. Or if it was a fluke on this last test and those were easy words for him to remember. Or if the change in how we studied helped. Or if it just starting to click for him. Hopefully we do not have a repeat of that first test grade as he will be in for a long school career if that is the case.

I am a little late in responding this, but I have been a blog slacker lately. I think it's interesting that we as parents worry about how worried we should get! We have been studying states and state capitals with Drew. I don't remember my parents studying with me like this when I was a kid.
Hey Lisa: One trick that worked wonders with Ryan was to take a 9 x 11 baking pan and put sugar or jello or salt in it to totally cover the bottom and have Nathan write his spelling words in it with his finger. Ryan went from missing alot of words every week to getting them almost always right. It was like a miracle, something about feeling the letters and words with his fingers vs pencil on paper worked! Good Luck!
