Last Friday night, since it was very nice evening, we caved into the boys demand for a campfire. Apparently we didn't have enough people between us and the neighbors, so Nathan called Grandpa Ken & Grandma Deb to come over. My parents were sitting around the fire and I was sitting there also talking to them while Bruce stood to the side talking to the neighbors.
I looked over at Dad and said, "Dad. From where I am sitting, it looks like your feet are smoking." Dad pulls his feet back and we continue talking. A little bit later he picks them up and discovers that leaves and grass are now stuck to the soles of his shoes. They had apparently melted. Dad shows the boys and they were very impressed. They asked him to "Do it again!" (I have to admit that I thought it was pretty neat too) Dad was upset as they are his favorite pair of shoes and he has had them for like ten years. I told him to tell me who the manufacturer is, what size and a design style if they have it and our family would get him a new pair for Christmas since I am always struggling with their gifts.
